Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Ridwan Disu has officially assumed duty as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), becoming the 23rd indigenous holder of the office. He succeeds the immediate past IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun (Rtd), PhD, NPM, who served from June 19, 2023, until his resignation on February 24, 2026.
Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State, the new Acting IGP is 59 years old and brings extensive academic and professional credentials to the role.
His qualifications include an MSc in Entrepreneurship from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN, 2023), an MSc in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (LASU, 2022), an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence from the University of Lagos (UNILAG, 2019), an MSc in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University (2010), a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies from LASU (2000), and a B.A. in English (Education) from LASU (1990).
Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992. Over his more than three-decade career, he has accumulated vast experience in operations, investigations, intelligence, and administration, serving in key strategic positions nationwide.
Prior to his appointment, he held the position of Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos. His other prominent postings include:

A highly decorated officer, Disu led Nigeria’s first police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) in Darfur in 2005. He is a third-degree black belt in Judo, having previously served as National Chairman of the Nigeria Police Judo Association, and won a silver medal at the 2022 US Open Judo Championships, among other accolades.
He is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the International Academy of Forensics, the National Association of Investigative Specialists (USA), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Disu following Egbetokun’s resignation (citing family considerations), with the appointment taking immediate effect. Disu was decorated in his new rank at the Presidential Villa and has since assumed leadership of the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force has expressed deep gratitude to the outgoing IGP Egbetokun for his dedicated service, which advanced reforms, modernization, and the overall strengthening of the institution.
In his inaugural message, Acting IGP Disu pledged to build on ongoing reforms, bolster internal security, foster stronger community partnerships, and uphold the Force’s core mandate of protecting lives and property in accordance with international best practices. He called for continued support and cooperation from officers, stakeholders, and the public to promote greater professionalism, discipline, and effective service delivery.
